Student chapter was founded on the 2nd of February 2002. Its original name was "Kyiv University Geophysical Society" as an organization of Geological faculty at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

The student chapter was extremely popular in first years of existence. In the next years "Kyiv University Geophysical Society" and geological faculty were attended by many lecturers.

The Chapter brings together students who wish to expand their knowledge about geophysical methods, focusing on hands-on workshop projects and promoting geology and geophysics to the world.

Members of the chapter have participated in many different events. Every year we have our students at IBA (Imperial Barrel Award). Members of "Kyiv University Geophysical Society" have participated in different geo-meetings in London, Copenhagen, and Prague. Out student chapter has been presented at the 85-87th SEG Annual Meetings. It is worth mentioning that members of the chapter regularly give presentation-lessons in Ukrainian schools about geology and opportunities that can be opened in this direction for future students. Besides,  for the second year in a row, the Chapter was granted a Field Camp grant.
